Our first blog from Harrison Style’s women’s stylist Jennifer Yedid is all about how to look chic and edgy without trying too hard. Take note because she’s got downtown style down to a fine art. 

It’s Tuesday night and you’re meeting your friends at a casual restaurant in your neighborhood. You don’t want to look fussy, however, every night out is much welcomed opportunity to spend a few more minutes on your makeup and go shopping in your closet. It’s one of life’s little indulgences. In these sartorially ambiguous situations, one word always comes to mind: balance. Let me give you an example. The other night I was meeting a very fashionable girlfriend for dinner.  My original plan was to wear my beloved Hanro bra camisole under a sheer Rick Owens jersey top with jeans and a heel.  As it turned out, I was quite pleased with the way the black camisole looked alone (thank you self tanner!) and decided to ditch the top, and instead, threw on my favorite (and ancient) black Theysken’s blazer.  Since this was a pretty sexy look for a weeknight dinner with a friend, I knew my shoes would need to bring this outfit down several notches.  So I put my heels back on the shelf and opted for green Golden Goose high tops.  I was sexy chic on top and casual cool on the bottom.  Ta-da!  A well balanced outfit was born.

So back to where we started.  It’s Tuesday night, and I’m meeting the girls for dinner a block away from my apartment. This time, the Rick Owens top survived the final cut.  I paired it with ripped jeans for a little grit, and pointy white flats for a little polish.  Threw on my denim cross body bag (because layering denim is awesome!) and I was out the door.  Bye kids! In my opinion, another well balanced outfit, straddling edge and elegance.  Within minutes, I was sitting at the table with great friends — a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc in hand.  #Bliss
