This weekend I attended the Bridgehampton Polo Club’s opening day, hosted by Town and Country Magazine and sponsored by Escada, Jet Edge and others. It was a fun and fashionable day. There were a lot of gorgeous Escada dresses worn by Town & Country Publisher Jennifer Levene Bruno, Wall Street power broker Elisa Moriconi and US Escada President Kimberly Jetnil. And there was a lot of Rosé being poured! But I was mostly interested in what the guys were sporting.

The look was preppy, summer, fun. Surprisingly, what I noticed most was the number of guys wearing white jeans. Skinny white jeans have been a staple in a women’s summer closest  forever but most men haven’t been so brave until now. And I have to say many of them got the look right on Saturday, keeping it simple, pairing with a loafer or driving shoe, and a simple button down and or blazer.

Some guys took the preppy look to an extreme (I saw a seersucker jacket with embroidered flamingos which is more gimmicky than classic) but to each their own.

Here are some of the looks that made the cut.

The most wearable look here is the gent on the left and I thought he put his outfit together well. But the other two look dapper and clearly make a statement.

These guys on the left were fun and sure made a statement but I favor clean, simple, more subtle summer styles.

So if you want to dress like you're going to a polo match in the Hamptons, you'd better get yourself some white or off-white jeans. Here are three ways to pull off the "white jeans" look this summer:

1.  White jeans, a woven brown or tan belt, brown, tan or colorful loafers (blue or orange make a nice statement without going overboard), and an open neck button down shirt in a check, pattern or solid pastel color. Roll the jeans cuff once or leave it down. Either way will work.

3.  Dress up white or off-white jeans with a sportcoat (lightweight and unlined is best for summer). It can be a navy linen, tan, seersucker or a pop of color. Skip the tie, leave the collar open and try a linen pocket square. Oh and go for some fun wingtips.
